Goat Big, or Go Home: Conrad, MT Business Sells Soaps and Lotions Nationwide
Deena Maier, an occupational therapist who’d always dreamed of having her own business, saw the need for a natural, reliable skin remedy among her patients and family members. After stumbling across an ad about making milk-based soaps in a magazine one night, Deena bought 3 dairy goats and began whipping up homemade goat’s milk soaps in her kitchen. Since then, Windrift Hill has become well-known throughout Montana, the Northwest, and beyond for its natural soaps, lotions, and body butters.
Mix in a few family members and whip forward a couple of years, Windrift Hill wasn’t satisfied just sitting on a shelf. This homegrown Montana skincare company was ready to build and expand. On a whim, daughter Amber Hofstad scheduled a business advising meeting at Great Falls Development Authority.
“If that meeting would have happened five years earlier, we would have been in a building for years, and if I hadn’t gone to that meeting that day, I would have missed out on so many things.” – Amber Hofstad, Marketing & Sales at Windrift Hill.
Great Falls Development Authority has assisted Windrift Hill with everything from networking and community engagement to writing winning grant proposals. All of this culminating in the purchase of new machinery to double not only their output of product, but double their efficiency and increase sales.
“Great Falls Development Authority is using the resources in the clients that they have to help one another, which I think is pretty cool because it helps us grow into this great collaborative community.”
